FR: Better integration of threaded items on automatic refresh
Reported by Gustavo Carreno | March 17th, 2010 @ 10:43 PM | in 1.50
I love the fact that the auto refresh does not mess with the
position of my list when it refreshes.
Sometimes I have like 100+ tweets up and same amount down and do
enjoy getting back after some AFK and have updates but all is left
the way I left it. This just to make the point that I realize it's
gonna be a tricky implement if you don't want to break this
behavior.
First I disagree upon the current implementation:
* You get updates 2 threaded items. * Item that is replied to, is
shaded and UNDER the reply. * Multiple replies get duped all over
the time-line.
Second, the ball is now in your court :P

I'll have to think on this one. I don't mind the original showing up under the reply even though the original is further up in the timeline. I still like the reminder.
I do agree that if you leave it open for awhile things you haven't read can get messy. I think there needs be a distinction between what hasn't been scrolled to (and therefor hasn't been seen by the user). This content is fair game to be updated and should look more like it would if you were opening the timeline for the first time.

Well, IF and it's a big IF since it's gonna be quite hard, but IF you
implement the mark read if you focus it, like the Google Reader does,
maybe the UX could improve?
Dunno, cuz this would then arise some other issues and there's always
these different minds saying they like it otherwise and we get on the
settings thing, etc...Well mate, your call :)
